We are so happy to announce that our Physiotherapist Janelle Reyes is currently starting up our Pelvic Health Program at the clinic!
Janelle has comprehensive experience in treating orthopedic and neurological conditions in all age groups.
She has an ongoing interest and involvement in the study of orthopedic and sports related injuries and rehabilitation practices. She progressed her medical knowledge and physiotherapy techniques through continuing education courses in manual therapy, soft tissue mobilizations, acupuncture, and other treatment skills.
Now she is able to provide pelvic floor physiotherapy to our clients in need!
Pelvic floor physiotherapy is becoming more established in the literature as a first-line of defense against incontinence and pelvic pain.
Pelvic floor dysfunction can be caused by too much tension (hypertonic) or (hypotonic) low tone of the pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor muscles are a group of muscles that attach to the front, back and sides of the pelvic bone and sacrum. They are like a hammock or a sling, and they support the bladder, uterus, prostate and rectum. They also wrap around your urethra, rectum, and vagina (in women). These changes can contribute to bowel and bladder incontinence, increased urgency and/or frequency, retention (not being able to empty your bladder or bowels), and pelvic organ prolapse.
The goal of Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy is to improve pelvic floor function through exercises, lifestyle modifications, education and hands on treatment to decrease and eliminate your symptoms.
We are very excited to let you know that we are starting the Pelvic Health Program in our clinic!
If you would like to know more about pelvic floor physiotherapy, the conditions we treat and what to expect, give us a call and we’ll be glad to answer your questions!
